SUFFICIENT evidence was found against a woman charged with publishing defamatory information against a female journalist to commit her to a trial in the National Court.
Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Tracy Ganaii on Friday committed Quintina Selmah Saun to trial for comments against TV journalist Theckla Gunga.
“There was no defence submissions and no prosecution submissions,” Magistrate Ganaii said.
“I considered what was contained in the police hand-up brief and statements from three main witnesses and came up with a ruling. The test really is that what do people say when they see the comments.
The comments posted on social media read: “… TB patient, you’re really asking for a permanent damage to be done to your face… “
The other comments read: “… Taim yu kirapim pukpuk, there’s no turning back …”
The case was adjourned to Sept 23 for Saun’s statement.
