Main markets in NCD to resume trading

THE main markets in the National Capital District will be allowed to operate in the next two months of the state of emergency, with enforcement of physical distancing and hand-washing, Governor Powes Parkop says.
He said people who depended on markets to sustain themselves could continue to trade.
Parkop said he was speaking to Central Governor Robert Agarobe for an arrangement to allow Central people to sell their produce in the city despite Agarobe’s preference of not allowing travelling between NCD and Central.
“We understand that he does not want to put his province at risk but we are working on a plan that will enable people in the informal sector to sell and earn income,” Parkop said.
Parkop said roadside markets would not be allowed in NCD but encouraged people to sell their items at home with proper hand-sanitising and physical distancing.

  • This is an opportune time (COVID-19 risks) to put proper legislation in place to control street sales and unnecessary informal sector dealings which are hot-spots for public health issues. Instead of NCDC taking that as an opportunity to put in proper regulations around that, the YOGA governor is encouraging trading from homes. Are you serious? Homes are zoned for residential, and are not supposed to be for commercial trading. No wonder tucker shops, side markets, buai tables, lambflaps hotplates, etc.. are popping like mushrooms everywhere …..

  • Make sure garden food is sold at the marjet by farmers mot miiddlemen and women who mark up the price
