Maino backs POMRFL’s young talent

THE Port Moresby Rugby Football League (POMRFL) is an ideal an ideal feeder competition for a SP Hunters Under-20 team, according to administrator Meke Maino.
He told The National last week that should the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League register a junior side in the Queensland Rugby League, POMRFL was ready to provide players.
Maino said POMRFL had updated data on all its players which made it a good competition to select footballers from.
“We have records, an accurate database of all our players from the U20s to the senior grades,” he said.
“We have the birth certificates of every player.
“Players can’t fake their age as we have all their information.
“Also, we have a great pool of young talents.
“Most of the Digicel Cup and SP Hunters players came through POMRFL.
“I’m not criticising other leagues but POMRFL’s U20s and senior grades are the model competitions in the country.
“If the Hunters are to register an U20 side in the future then I believe POMRFL should contribute most of the players.”
Meanwhile, POMRFL will host round three at the Oil Search National Football Stadium’s oval two this weekend.
