PORT Moresby Rugby Football League (POMRFL) competition manager Meke Maino says he is disappointed in four clubs that have failed to register women’s teams.
The clubs are Kone Storm, Defence, Hohola Flies and Kone Tigers. Maino told The National that last weekend’s round-two games were below par.
“As the oldest league in Papua New Guinea, it was disappointing to see four women’s matches being consecutively forfeited,” he said.
The matches decided on forfeit were Gulf West over Kone Storm, Royals over Hohola Flies, Hanuabada Hawks over Defence and Paga Panthers over Kone Tigers.
“These teams have being playing for a very long time and there is no excuse for them not to field women’s teams,” Maino said.
“POMRFL is a PNG Rugby Football League-sanctioned competition and we follow whatever that is required under their policies or constitution.
“So we’re required to have three divisions – A-grade, Under-20s and women.”
Maino said penalties will be imposed on the clubs if they failed to adhere to the requirements.
“Following a review by the POMRFL board, the clubs are facing hefty penalty fees,” he said.
