ALL provinces throughout Papua New Guinea are preparing for the 2014 PNG Games e and the students of Mainohana Catholic Secondary School, Central, have made their intention known with 12 students selected in Team Central to the PNG Games in Lae in November.

“We will complete our training camps by end of August. The trials are scheduled for September and we’ll finalise the athletics team with others who are camping in Port Moresby,” athletics coach Phillip Mane said.

“The athletes, ninth and 10th graders, are doing very well under the strict discipline. It is not about winning. We will have to do the best for ourselves so our best can become the standard. We aim to expose our discipline in sports. Sport is discipline and discipline is sports. It’s not a one off thing. It’s a lifetime investment for the community, district, and the province in the sports industry.”

Mainohana team in team central field and athletics squad for PNG Games are Apini Stephanie (sprints), Peter Simon Kealava (sprints/relay), Joe Paul (sprint/relay), John Iniauma (relay), Terrance Aisaisa (sprint/relay), Madlyne George (middle distance), Ume Margaret (long distance), Peter John Paru (middle distance), Kende Bernard (javelin), Schubert Kehenae (discus), Maino Joycelyn (volleyball) and John Apini (sprint).
