Maintain high standards: Toropo

PAPUA New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) chief Major-General Gilbert Toropo says the way forward for the army is for commanders to maintain high standards at all times.
“The senior leadership team (SLT) should maintain the highest standard of behaviour at all times as part of the modernisation and professionalisation of the PNGDF in 2022, and beyond, focused on delivery and in line with Vision 2030,” he said.
Maj-Gen Toropo wants his SLT to define what it takes to be a senior leader and translate it into tangible actions.
“As SLT leaders, you set the tone, behaviour and character of PNGDF,” he said.
“Live the foundations of the Kumul leadership framework, deliver on the ideas and intents you have articulated.”
Maj-Gen Toropo said this at the closing of a three-day retreat to plan PNGDF’s improvement and constitutional duty in enforcing the army’s Vision 2030.
He said the feedback on the discussion was reassuring and heartening for the army’s future.
Maj-Gen Toropo and his SLT also signed an accord to declare their commitment to continue to execute defence reform through effective, transparent and courageous leadership.
