NATIONAL coach and former footballer Frederica Sakette has called on the women in football to take challenges head on and make a difference in their respective areas – whether it be coaching, refereeing or administrating.
Sakette’s call came in line with the International Women’s Day yesterday with the theme “Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a Covid-19 world.”
As more women leaders continue to rise in sports, Sakette’s shared experience is aimed at encouraging women in sports to overcome challenges and excel in their respective field.
“To become successful in football, you got to have passion, when you are passionate, you can do anything even if it means volunteering your time,” she said.
“I first represented PNG in 1990 then retired in 2003 and took up coaching in 2008 as a volunteer and didn’t look back.”
Sakettel has assisted and coached the national youth teams to the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) World Cup Qualifiers and Youth Olympics through her leadership in football as a coach.
