Make laws for compensation

Letters

THE Government need to do something about the K1 million compensation claim from a death.
The relatives of the late police officer from Jiwaka, who was killed in Tari by his wife, demanded K1 million compensation from a Chinese man.
In a similar case, the relatives of a deceased person from Gagidu station in Finschhafen, Morobe, also claimed K1 million compensation from the Highlands community in the district.
Come on Deputy Prime Minister and Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Steven Davis.
It’s about time you as a responsible minister do something about this unrealistic compensation demand of K1 million.
This figure is unrealistic and insane.
Can Parliament pass a law that specify the amount of money required to be paid as compensation in relation to death?
The amount has to fall in a category that can correspond to the cause of death.
For instance, if a death is premeditated, the amount should be higher.
While an accidental death, the amount should be lower.
This should be clarified, specified and debated before it is gazette.
Time and time again, people put extraordinary amount for compensations.
It is heartfelt to lose a loved one, but relatives of the deceased should let justice prevail.
Wrong-doers should face the full force of law.
Instead of resorting to violence and unrealistic claims, let the law serve its purpose.

  • Lets always look at the both side of the coin, why this & that happened that resulted in people dying, there is always a reason behind it, people don’t die just for sake of dying, lets find the root causes why are people dying,
there are so many answers we can get, based on these answer, we can make some wise decisions for the good of our selves, relatives, the community, district & nations. Lets rise up & make some good decisions that our fore fathers have ever made…why are we paralyzed to make top decisions for the next generations………

  • Compensation (blood money) is simply a get rich scheme.
PNG has Laws and have the Police to conduct investigations and deal with suspects.
Let the law deal with law breakers. That’s why we pay taxes.
