AFTER six years of non-operation, mv Mamose Express will be servicing the north coast of Morobe, Madang, East and West Sepik.
Evangelical Lutheran Church of PNG (ELCPNG) treasurer Noreo Keindip, during a small welcome ceremony for the vessel at Asiawe Wharf at Voco Point in Lae yesterday, said the church had decided to resume shipping services.
“It is not in a big way but in a little way,” he said.
“We decided to come back with a small fleet and this is one of our two ships. The mv Mamose Express went for maintenance in Madang after the church bought it from the liquidator.
“It cost the church K1.7 million for maintenance alone.”
Despite the ship being scheduled to travel on Sept 28, Keindip said after going through a lengthy process, the ship finally got the approval on Oct 1.
“The ship left Madang on Monday with some mothers from Madang and Karkar for Lablab, in Siassi (for Lutheran women’s conference). After the conference, the ship will operate the normal routes it has been operating before.”
Keindip said another ship, the mv Ialibu, was still undergoing sea trials in Cebu, Philippines, and should arrive in PNG by the end of this month or early November.
