Trusting in God

Letters

The Bible says in Psalms 20:7-8 that “some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm”.
Therefore despite of all the problems and challenges we are going through as a country, we must remember that God is in the midst of them. He has been our strength and refuge. Without blood being shed he established our country as a Christian independent nation.
Other nations can talk about the things they have and do but they will fall and be brought low but we will rise and stand upright because we put our trust in God.
Nations are boasting and talking about their armies, technologies, economy, business, inventions and discoveries but no one is interested in talking and boasting about Jesus.
In times like this, what are we Papua New Guineans going to do? Are we going to follow the world or stand up for Christ? What are we going to boast about?

  • Our natural resources? Yes, we have, but we cannot refine them so we will buy the refined products.
  • Our government and economy? Absolutely not, when compared with the rest of the world.
  • Our military? More like a private escort team when compared to the world.
  • Our nation’s capital? More like a town compared to the CBD standards of the world.

Others describe us as both rich and poor, an island of gold filled with wild beasts floating on a sea of oil; they call us cannibals and other names but the Bible says that they will fall down to the dust and perish. Henseforth we will lift up the banner of Jesus Christ and shout to the world as we usually sing in our national anthem. We are for Christ no matter what.
Our government made an important decision concerning our people’s faith when it placed the Bible in the chamber of the national Parliament and declared Papua New Guinea a Christian nation.
On behalf of the people of PNG I thank Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and his team and the Opposition for the decisions they are making for us. God will richly bless them with wisdom and understanding and he will guide them every day.
Most importantly we must know that God is a holy God and a jealous God who does not work with strange gods.
Therefore if we want to allow God to rule over our country then we have to put away the strange gods found in our cultural activities, customs and carvings, which the Bible states in Exodus 20:3-4 as the first commandment.
If we really want to become a Christian nation then we have to let go of our country’s pride and identity and let the God of Israel become our pride and identity. If we do that then we will see the power of God.
God Bless Papua New Guinea.
