A 22-YEAR-OLD man has been committed to stand trial at the Waigani National Court for murdering another person at Tatana village, National Capital District, earlier this year.
Waigani Committal Court magistrate Ernest Wilmot ruled that the evidence established by the prosecution was sufficient to have Willie Morea from Tatana stand trial.
The court was aided with information from two witnesses.
The witnesses statements provided corroborating testimonials leading to the ruling.
Police reported that the incident took place in February at an informal market at Tatana.
The victim, Heni Heni, was reported to have been sitting next to a market vendor while waiting to go out night fishing with friends when he was attacked by the accused.
Morea struck Heni from behind with a metal rod.
Heni was transported to the nearby Tatana clinic but was referred to the Port Moresby General Hospital due to the severity of the injury sustained.
He was admitted and later discharged from hospital but referred back after recurring symptoms of the injury.
Heni later died as a result of the injury.
Magistrate Wilmot adjourned the case to Oct 22 and remanded Morea to custody.
