A FUGITIVE, wanted for a series of crime and who had been on the run for several months, was shot dead by police in Bulolo last month.
Another suspect was also captured after he was shot and injured.
On Oct 1, another three wanted men were also captured with one shot in the knee. The National’s attempts to get official comments from Morobe police commander Alex N’Drasal yesterday on the shooting and arrests were unsuccessful.
According to a police source who requested anonymity, the shooting and arrests were the result of a tip-off.
The wanted suspects were drinking homebrew when police surrounded them.
One of them fled in the dark but police managed to down him with a shot on the knee.
The injured suspect and three others were then arrested.
Police said when they marched the suspects across Wara Bulolo, one of them jumped into the river and disappeared, despite being handcuffed.
“We have yet to determine whether the suspect had drowned or escaped alive,” the source said.
The suspect who was shot in the knee is wanted for a series of crime.
The suspect was alleged to terrorise communities at the Bulolo market and robbing people off their bilum and purse.
