THE accused in the murder of a man at the Gagidu Market in Finschhafen on June 10 has been committed to stand trial by the Lae Committal Court.
Senior Magistrate Pious Tapil after assessing evidence filed in court by police, made the ruling on Wednesday that Ben Wana, 34, from Ompua-Masa village, Tewae-Siassi, Morobe, had a case to answer in the National Court.
He told Wana that there was enough evidence to prove the element of a murder charge against him.
“With these evidences provided to court by police, it is sufficient and I am committing you to stand trial at the National Court on Nov 3,” Magistrate Tapil told Wana.
Wana’s alleged actions contravened Section 299 (1) of the PNG Criminal Code Act Chapter 262, he said.
The police reports said Wana committed the offence at the Gagidu Market on June 10, at around 10am.
Wana stabbed the victim in broad daylight with a kitchen knife.
Police said the deceased was rushed to Braun Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police stated in the summary of facts that the reason behind the incident according to Wana was over previous differences.
