A 24-YEAR-OLD man was charged in the Waigani Committal Court with raping his five-year-old niece in September.
Magistrate Paul Nii read out the charges to man, from Kombiam, Enga, on Thursday.
He is charged with two counts of rape, two counts of molest and one count of persistent sexual abuse.
Magistrate Nii remanded the man and adjourned the hearing to March 3.
The man is alleged to have between Sept 1 and Oct 20, sexually abused the minor in her 3-Mile home in Port Moresby.
He is believed to have told his niece to see him in the house and he allegedly molested her in the living hall on the pretext of removing something.
Police alleged that he did the same many times but the girl could not recall the exact dates when she was abused.
Police alleged that he sexually attacked his niece when no one was at home, but, when someone came, he would pretend to do something else.
The minor feared the accused and did not report it to her parents.
On Oct 20, he allegedly picked his niece from school and went back to the house.
He and his niece were both in the house while the baby sitter and her baby sister were outside.
The baby-sitter suspected something was amiss and reported it to the girl’s mother.
The mother then took her daughter to the hospital and police.
