Man appears in court for damaging property

A man from East Sepik man charged with damaging property appeared at the Waigani Committal Court for arraignment yesterday.
Vitus Karagu, from Wewak in East Sepik, allegedly damaged properties at Bomana Police College valued over K11,000 on Nov 12 last year.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar told Karagu that police would conduct an investigation into the matter and the court would deliberate on it.
On Nov 12 last year at Bomana Police College in the National Capital District, Karagu allegedly damaged a police building and a police mobile radio. The cost of the damage was K11,308.
The court asked Karagu to find a lawyer to help him file his submissions when his case returned to court on Aug 18.
Karagu is on K500 extended bail.
Meanwhile, the court said damaging public and State properties was a criminal offence and people had to be aware of this.
It stated that anything that was used by the public or the State institutions were under State custody and destroying such was a crime.
