POLICE have arrested a Morobe man in connection to a murder in Wau last June 4 after he refused a police call to surrender, provincial commander Supt Jacob Singura says.
Singura said the man was one of the other suspects that police wanted for murder following a sorcery-related case in Wau town.
“Two others were sentenced by the Bulolo National Court last week to 18 years and 28 years respectively on the same offence, and are now serving their sentences at Buimo” he said.
“For the latest arrested suspect, police issued callouts for him to voluntarily surrender to police but did not do as asked.
“He was arrested on June 19 and brought to Wau where he was charged with one count of wilful murder.”
Singura said the suspect appeared in a Bulolo committal court last Wednesday.
“While in court, police refused his bail and the suspect was remanded at Buimo awaiting his next appearance in court.”
Confirming the arrest of the suspect, Wau Police Station commander Snr Insp Leo Kaikas said investigation into the killing of a young man suspected of practising sorcery was continuing.
“We believe that there are several others who are also involved in the killing of the young man,” he said.
“They’ve been avoiding police arrest.
“Once police catch up with them, they will be also be charged.”
