A GOROKA policeman was charged in a district court with cheating a woman of K200 by promising to free her brother from custody.
The magistrate, last Friday, granted Constable David Gumine, 30, K200 bail and adjourned hearing to July 27 to give police time to complete its investigations.
According to the court brief, Gumine, from Daulo’s Kofena village, allegedly demanded a smoke and betel nut and asked for K200 from Morley Kirua.
Morley had appeared before the police duty counter on May 5 and enquired about her brother, Joe Api, who was arrested and detained in the police cell.
Gumine informed her that he was the arresting officer and made the demands before he would attend to her requests.
Morley laid a formal police complaint against Gumine who was arrested on June 24.
