A MAN was arrested and two homemade guns were recovered by the Kokopo police response unit yesterday at the Takubar Nivani compound in Kokopo, East New Britain.
East New Britain police commander Sr Insp Joseph said the police were in pursuit of suspects involved in crimes in the province when they discovered the guns.
Tabali said the compound was known for hiding criminals and that needed to stop because police would arrest and charge people if they found any offensive weapons or illegal property in their possession.
He said those harbouring criminals would also be arrested and charged accordingly. “I want community leaders, family members and the relatives of those involved in criminal activities to report them to the police,” he said. “How will you expect the police to know that a criminal is at that certain area or is in possession of such weapons?
“Police will only act on information that is provided by the public.”
Tabali said police would arrest and charge the parents of the criminals if they found evidence pertaining to crimes in their houses.
Tabali said most of the people living in the settlements knew the wanted criminals in the province but were not reporting them to the police.
