A man charged with killing his brother at the Koki fish market in Port Moresby in June has been remanded in custody because of the seriousness of the offence.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar also advised Russell Tom, from Kikori in Gulf, who is facing a charge of wilful murder, to get legal assistance from the public solicitor.
Police prosecutor Shellian Pius informed the court that police investigations had been completed and the file was served on Tom on Oct 5.
Magistrate Bidar adjourned the case to Nov 19 for submissions.
Police alleged that on June 24, at the Koki fish market, in Port Moresby, Tom killed his brother Jack Morobai.
It is alleged that Tom had an argument the night before with a relative after Tom had failed to bring back the change to a K50 given to him earlier to buy a bottle of beer.
Police said Morobai intervened and supported the relative. Tom allegedly came back the next day with a knife and asked for Morobai’s whereabouts.
He was told that he had gone to Koki fish market.
Tom allegedly went there and killed him while he was asleep.
