POLICE in East New Britain (ENB) have arrested and charged a Pomio man with the murder of his wife.
The man is currently detained at the Kokopo Police Station and is expected to appear before the Kokopo District Court next week.
Provincial police commander Chief Insp Joseph Tabali said the deceased was Georgina Sali, 25, from Tevi village, also in the Melkoi local level government.
The body of Sali is at the Nonga General Hospital morgue
Police alleged that on June 3, at Mavrlima village in Melkoi, Pomio, the suspect, Ioram Kaolivia, murdered his wife.
Chief Insp Joseph Tabali said police were yet to establish a motive for the killing.
Police suspect that Kaolivia may have been under the influence of marijuana when he killed Sali.
Police alleged that Sali was carrying her baby and standing in their home when she was slashed across the neck from behind by Kaolivia using a bush knife.
She died at the scene.
Chief Insp Tabali said an eight-year-old girl who came to the couple’s home to visit witnessed the killing.
She then ran to Sali’s parents’ home and alerted them of the incident.
The parents rushed to Sali’s home and found her lying in a pool of blood with Kaolivia sitting and staring at the body.
The police at Palmalmal Station were called and travelled to the village, arrested Kaolivia and brought him to Kokopo where he was arrested and charged with wilful murder.
