Man charged with rape to defend himself

A MAN charged with aggravated rape will have a chance to defend himself on March 26 when the case is called again.
Amos Tagibe, believed to be between 25 and 30 from Margarima in Hela was charged with raping a 17-year-old girl at Erima, Port Moresby, last Nov 1.
Committal Court Magistrate Tracy Ganaii remanded him and adjourned the case to March 26 so he file could his defence.
Police alleged that the girl was drinking with two male friends at the back of a supermarket at night.
Her friends left at around 3am.
She was alone when Tagibe grabbed her and allegedly threatened her with a knife.
Police alleged that he had sex with her in a nearby bush.
Police alleged that Tagibe’s wife witnessed what was happening but he told her to keep watch.
Tagibe admitted to police that he had sex with the girl but claimed that she gave consent.
