Man charged with sexual abuse of girl, 7

A MAN charged with the persistent sexual abuse of a seven-year-old girl has been committed to stand trial in the National Court.
Kelly Mambex’s case had been struck out early this year by Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Alex Kalandi because proper procedures had not been followed during his arrest.
But Mambex, 43, from Buang in Morobe, was rearrested and charged for the alleged sexual abuse of the girl between December 2017 and June 2018 at Gerehu Stage Five in Port Moresby.
Mambex appeared before Magistrate Cosmas Bidar yesterday who found enough evidence to commit him to trial.
“There is sufficient evidence from the witness statements in the police brief,” he said.
“The offence was continuous over a period of time.”
The court heard that Mambex was living with a relative at Gerehu and the girl also lived with her family in the area.
On June 16 last year, Mambex allegedly took the girl to behind the house and touched her private parts.
The mother later saw the girl appearing from behind the house and questioned her mother what she was doing there.
The court heard that she told her mother Mambex and her were discussing cartoons.
Her mother did not believe her and forced her tell the truth.
She then revealed everything.
