A MAN claims that police officers from Central fired shots at civilians at Saraga, in 6-Mile, Port Moresby, last weekend.

Peter Nea from Laiagam, in Enga, who lives at Saraga, visited The National office to show the wounds he suffered.

Central provincial police commander Laimo Asi said he had spoken to Nea and told him to lodge a formal complaint at the Central police headquarters.

“He has made an allegation against my men so he must come in and lay a formal complaint,” he said.

Asi said if it called for an investigation, then they would carry it out.

“He identified a police vehicle and said they took him to the hospital,” Asi said.

Nea claimed that at around 6pm on Saturday, a police vehicle stopped at the Saraga market and four policemen got out and fired shots at civilians.

He said he had his back turned when he was hit by pellets.

He said the officers later admitted they had made a mistake and took him to the Port Moresby General Hospital.

“I told them that they had hit me and they admitted they were wrong and put me in their vehicle to take me to hospital,” he said.

His wife Margaret after seeing blood on his body thought he was dead and screamed at the officers to help him.
