A MAN was allegedly stabbed by his drinking mates and was rushed to the Madang’s Modilon Hospital where he died on Sunday morning.
Provincial police commander Acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang said Robert Kindo, who resided in Billau Maus Rot (BMR), had a drinking binge with his friends from the Kerema Compound on Saturday night.
“Several houses and properties were damaged by Kindo’s family members in retaliation to his death,” he said.
“The losses were also suffered by innocent villagers.”
Acting Supt Rubiang said police had told them not to retaliate but they ignored the advice and innocent villagers were now suffering.
He said those who let the group of youths from Billau Maus Rot to go and destroy properties in Kerema Compound would be dealt with accordingly.
“They have no respect for the police and the law who were at the scene,” he said.
“The prime suspect who was alleged to have been involved in the murder was arrested and detained in the police station lock-up for investigations.”
Acting Supt Rubiang said most of the murder cases reported in the province were alcohol-related.
“The authorities and leaders in the province must step in to help police stop all the alcohol-related killings.”
“I have noticed that the cheap alcohol, which are less than K50, are the ones that police remove from drunkards or from those who committed serious offences such as the one who stabbed the student in town on Friday.”
