Man escaped from custody, police still searching

POLICE are looking for a man from the Solomon Islands facing a robbery charge and who escaped from custody.
Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Tracy Ganaii granted an application for an arrest warrant filed by police prosecutor Const Shellilan Pius. It will be returnable on March 10.
Richard Emmanuel, 23, from Nauramanda’s Pices village, escaped from the Boroko police station before he could be sent to prison to await his court case because a gun was used in the robbery.
He allegedly robbed Hua Taravatu of his bus valued at K250,000.
It was alleged that between 1.30am and 1pm on Jan 14, in Central’s Gwarumemase, Emmanuel and three others held up the driver and crew of the bus and assaulted them.
They later tied them up and left them in a bush along the Magi Highway before driving away in the bus.
The driver and others managed to free themselves and sought the help of the villagers of Barakau nearby.
Emmanuel was arrested in Lae on April 30, 2019, and was brought to Port Moresby on May 2.
