Man faces armed robbery charge

A 21-YEAR-OLD man alleged to have robbed a motor vehicle belonging to the Education Department was remanded by Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Tracy Ganaii on Friday.
Walter Abel, of Oraia village in Rigo, Central, was charged with armed robbery and unlawful use of motor vehicle.
He allegedly committed the offences with two co-accused, George Apopo, 27, and Gramson Kebo, 20.
It was alleged that on Jan 19, at Healy Road in Koki, NCD, Abel, with his co-accused, armed with two homemade firearms held up Mike Morea Ugaia, using violence and drove away with the vehicle he was driving, a blue Toyota Kia sedan, bearing the registration number ZET004.
They allegedly drove towards Scratchley Road, then towards Pari Road where the driver missed the track and crashed into a family yard at Horse Camp, Joyce Bay.
The men fled but were chased by families and bystanders, and the driver, Apopo, was nabbed outside Butuka Primary School.
The matter was reported and the men were arrested. The case was adjourned to Feb 25.
