A 21-YEAR-OLD man appeared in the Waigani Committal Court yesterday charged with persistent sexual abuse of a minor at Morata One, Port Moresby.
Emmanuel Robin, from Kasoro village, Okapa, Eastern Highlands, appeared before Magistrate Ernest Wilmot accused of abusing a nine-year-old girl over a substantial period.
Police alleged that the girl had been abused by Robin for six months (March-October) without the knowledge of her family.
The girl did not report the incidents over fear of her wellbeing after Robin was alleged to have threatened her countless times after committing the offence.
Police alleged that the first incident occurred when the girl’s father was away in the village.
Robin took the girl while she was taking a bath outside over into his room where he allegedly raped her.
Another instance of the alleged incident was when the girl was out with her father one afternoon and met Robin.
The father was unaware.
Robin allegedly tricked the girl with 50 toea and took her to a nearby lawn where he fondled her private parts before raping her.
The matter was reported to the girl’s parents after one of her younger siblings became suspicious about the girl’s behaviour.
The girl later admitted what was happening and Robin was taken by police to the Boroko Police station where he was charged. Magistrate Wilmot adjourned the case to Dec 2. Robin is remanded in custody.
