A MAN who stole a bag of cement and other items from inside a church compound belonging to a pastor has been fined K1,000.
Mt Hagen District Court Magistrate Lydia Karre found Jacob Reuben guilty of stealing. He will spend three months in prison if he fails to pay the fine.
Reuben, from Kelkei village in the Kona local level government of Dei, stole the items belonging to Pastor Micheal Kara and the church valued at K925 on Oct 11.
He entered the church compound and broke into Pastor Kara’s house.
He stole a gas cylinder worth K95, a gas burner stove worth K180 and took the keys to the church building.
Police said he stole a bag of cement valued at K50. He then went to the pastor’s pig sty and took a pig worth K600.
His elder brother saw everything and took Reuben to the police station.
Police said his brother was not happy with what his younger sibling had been involved and wanted him to face the law.
Prosecutor Sam Nili asked the court to impose the maximum penalty. Nili told the court that Reuben had no respect for the church and servant of God.
