THE National Court has found a man guilty of killing his wife at Boroko in Port Moresby three years ago.
Justice Panuel Mogish on Thursday found Bradley Nerri, a father of three, guilty of killing his wife Mary Ketega on March 10, 2016.
He will be sentenced later.
Mother Elis and sister Esther told the court that the marriage between Mary and Nerri had been on the rocks for some time.
They said the family had been pursuing an interim protection order (IPO) against Nerri from the Boroko police station. But they could not obtain one before her death.
The court was told that Elis, Esther and Mary were walking towards the Tabari bus stop when Nerri appeared out of nowhere and assaulted Mary. He slapped Mary then used a pocket knife to stab her.
Nerrie told the court he was annoyed after he found out that Mary’s sister working with Digicel had been tracking his movement.
Nerrie claimed that Mary had the pocket knife and planned to attack him with it. But in the process of trying to take it away from her, Mary stabbed herself.
Justice Mogish said the autopsy report showed that there were three stab wounds.
“This explains Elis Ketega’s evidence on how he stabbed the deceased and continuously moved the knife violently inside,” Mogish said.
