A 28-year-old man allegedly responsible for the brutal murder of his foe has been remanded in custody due to the severity of his charges.
Noel Moimo, 28, from Goilala, Central, appeared before the Central Committal Court at Waigani on Tuesday for wilful murder in relating to the killing of Amuna Kuari at Tapini, Goilala.
Magistrate Marcus Nandape adjourned the case to June 6.
Police alleged that Moimo was attacked by Kuari (deceased) on March 30 at the Tapini main market.
The deceased had refused to follow Moimo and Sergeant Dedei Rara to report to the Tapini police station for allegedly verbally insulting Moimo’s relative.
The deceased allegedly attacked Sergeant Rara and later slashed Moimo on his right arm with a machete.
The deceased fled after realising the seriousness of his actions but was chased down by Moimo who had allegedly chopped him to death.
Police briefs stated that members of the public had also chased the deceased and continued chopping him, well after he was slayed.
Moimo surrendered to police a day after the incident and was later brought to Port Moresby and where he was taken into custody.
