A MAN facing a charge of issuing “written threats” to kill Police Commissioner Gari Baki in 2015 has escaped from a hospital after receiving medical treatment.
Moses Maina, 33, from Western Highlands, escaped from the Port Moresby General Hospital on Wednesday, according to Bomana prison commander Kiddy Keko .
Keko told The National yesterday that Maina, from Togoba village in Nebilyer, was taken to the hospital by prison officers.
“The suspect is definitely a threat to the community at large because he has been rated a very dangerous inmate and a conman,” he said.
“The Correctional Services is looking for him with the police.
“I am appealing to the public with information on the whereabouts of Maina to contact my office on mobile phone numbers 7212 0579 or 7660 7100.
“We will not reveal the identity of those who inform us. All information will be treated as confidential.”
Maina was charged with seven counts of issuing written threats using several SIM cards through his mobile phone to Baki in 2015 saying that he would kill him or his family.
He was awaiting a National Court decision on his case.
Keko said Maina was one of three inmates escorted by Bomana prison officers to the hospital.
“We will investigate the conduct of our staff and establish what went wrong and take disciplinary action against the officers concerned,” he said.
Maina was also charged with conspiring to kill former NCD Met Supt Benjamin Turi.
