Man in court over stabbing, rape of woman

A MAN who allegedly stabbed a woman before raping her in Bulolo, Morobe, last month has been remanded at Buimo Prison.
Piram John Bukam, 24, from Bogia in Madang, but lives in Wau, Bulolo, appeared before Lae District Court Magistrate Edward Kupo on Wednesday charged with sexual penetration without consent.
Prosecutor senior Constable Adrian Copland told the court that on Nov 16, 2019, Bukam allegedly followed the woman from her home at Bogia Compound in Bulolo all the way to the Wau Main Market. She went there to buy vegetables.
It is alleged that Bukam approached her at the market and threaten her with a kitchen knife. He took her out through the market’s back gate.
She failed in her attempts to free herself.
At a cemetery, she again tried to free herself but was stabbed twice in the back. Bukam threw her on the ground and she became unconscious after hitting her head.
Police alleged that Bukam allegedly raped her twice while she was unconscious. He was about to assault her again when she regained consciousness and fought with him.
Her elder sister also came to her rescue.
Bukam will appear in court from prison on Jan 20, 2020.
