THREE men and a woman have gone into hiding following the gruesome killing of a 34-year old man along the south coast road in Madang, police say.
Madang police commander Acting Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang said the deceased from Wosera-Gawi, East Sepik, was killed at Balama Junction on Thursday at 7.30 pm. Rubiang said the deceased died from several knife wounds to his head and neck.
He said the suspects were last seen with the deceased and police believe they were involved in his death. All five were drunk together at a polling booth in Alemo hamlet and later headed to Balama Junction where a fight broke out and resulted in the murder,” Rubiang said.
“When police responded, the suspects had already fled the scene, leaving behind their dead drinking mate.”
Rubiang said no motive had been established for the killing and more would be known as the investigation progressed.
He added that the identities of the suspects were known and they would be arrested “once necessary and accurate information is provided to the police to establish their whereabouts.”
Rubiang said the deceased’s body was brought to Modilon Hospital morgue by Madang police.
