A MAN alleged to have stolen a phone costing more than K2,000 has been granted a K300 bail to reappear in court on Nov 12.
Ronald Tony, 28, from Nemabul village in East New Britain, appeared before Magistrate Cosmas Bidar charged with stealing.
Tony told the court that he was unemployed and asked for K100 bail.
Police Prosecutor Constable Shellian Pius objected saying the phone was an expensive one.
Tony was alleged to have been at the Banana Club in Waigani on July 13 where he met Vincent Babaisi, an employee of Coca Cola, and some other men.
They went to Morata and continued drinking there.
Babaisi was intoxicated and Tony allegedly took his waist bag containing his phone valued at K2,000.
On July 19, Tony was confronted at the Waigani bus stop by Babaisi and was taken to the Boroko police station.
Magistrate Bidar told Tony to attend all his court hearings.
The matter was adjourned to Nov 12.
