POLICE arrested a man with a homemade gun in Port Moresby yesterday.
National Capital District (NCD)/Central police said in a statement that the man was in a group of five men when police saw them in Koukou area – a place common for car-jacking.
“The six men were planning to hold up passing vehicles when a police patrol spotted them,” the statement said.
“Five of them managed to escape in different directions but the suspect was nabbed after a foot chase by Fox 100 members.
“Police seized the gun from the suspect,” the statement added.
Police said it would continue to provide presence in the area and go after would-be car thieves and robbers. The area had become a weekend outing spot for city residents.
