Manase dismisses Polye’s claims

KANDEP MP Alfred Manase dismissed claims by his predecessor Don Polye, that he was frustrating the court process.
Polye claimed that a slip rule application by Manase currently before the Supreme Court in relation to a judicial recount of the Kandep Open ballots was an abuse of process.
Manase, in a statement, said that Polye was not qualified to play the role of a judge.
“No slip rule loses its utility because each case has different circumstances acting on them, even if they appear similar in nature,” he said.
“If Polye is referring to his own slip rule application filed in 2016 which failed, it was because there was a very clear case of tampering with the election process.
“While the judicial recount was in progress, thugs stormed the Wabag Police Station, commandeered the ballot boxes, transported them to Kandep and destroyed them.
“No such blatant criminal act has happened in the matter currently before the court, nor can it happen under my watch.
“Therefore, this attempt by Polye to declare the slip rule failed before it has had its day in court is another of his continuing disregard for due process and the rule of law.”
Manase said he was using lawful means to advocate for his rights and declined to comment when asked as the matter is before the courts.
