A CHRISTIE Maneu hat-trick helped Madang’s Tusbab Laidamon rebound to shut out rookies LFA Originals 3-0 in round two of the Women’s National Soccer League Northern Conference at 11-Mile outside Lae on Saturday.
It was the visitors’ first win of the season following their 0-1 loss to Rainy Lae in the opening round.
Tusbab started strongly, but they were kept at bay in the opening quarter of the match.
However, 15 minutes from halftime, Maneu beat Originals defenders to open the score.
In the 79th minute, Maneu scored her second goal after she combined with Michaela Kurabi, Elien Marup, Marierose Possie, Billa Wani and Gloria Robert.
The visitors maintained their intensity and were rewarded with Maneu’s third goal to close out the win.
Laidamon assistant coach Amos Romo said they lost their opening game due to a lack of lead-up matches in the offseason.
He said they used the opening match to trial their combinations.
“We then went back to the drawing board to fix our mistakes ahead of this match,” he said.
“We improved against Originals.
“But, we need to work more on our fitness and speed. Midfielder Possie, defender Eunice Dumbui and Maneu stood out in the win.
“But we still need to work more with Maneu. She needs support from her teammates.
“We need to improve in our finishes. But all in all, we are happy with the win.”
