TRAGEDY struck two women who were married to a man when one of them stabbed the other to death in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands, on April 2.
Police commander Chief Insp Jacob Kamiak said the woman from Western Highlands’ Nenga village was arrested and charged with murder.
“The women had an argument on April 2,” he said.
“One of them grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the other repeatedly.
“At times police had to attend to such killings in polygamous marriages.
“Fights and arguments are common in a polygamy marriage.
“Over the years, police have successfully handled homicide in polygamous marriages.”
Chief Insp Kamiak told The National that the woman from Dei’s Kuli village in Western Highlands was rushed to Mt Hagen Hospital but she died on way due to loss of blood.
Meanwhile, he advised the people in Mt Hagen to take precaution when moving around as police lacked resources and manpower and could not attend to problems swiftly.
Chief Insp Kamiak said people from other provinces also lived in Mt Hagen after fleeing from tribal fights and other community-related problems.
“I want the public to understand that this city is for everyone and all should take safety as priority,” he said.
“There are about 300,000 people living in the city with the number increasing everyday and we are trying to attend to serious issues.”
