Many gaps in climate action: MP

THERE are a lot of gaps in certain areas in policy when it comes to climate action for Papua New Guinea, says vice-minister for Bougainville Affairs Peter Tsiamalili. Tsiamalili, who is the Bougainville Regional MP, said the country needed to go back to the drawing board. Speaking during the National Environment and Climate Emergency Summit on Friday, he said a holistic approach was needed to address issues at hand. “There isn’t enough advocacy in this space in Government,” Tsiamalili said. “The more of us (leaders) at a higher level really advocating for this space, we can actually change the way and address those policy gaps that is a priority. “For Bougainville going forward, where we are now as acknowledged as a special region, if Papua New Guinea can address those gaps, Bougainville can leverage off that where it is heading towards in its political aspirations.
