Many have lost respect for the PM

Letters, Normal

AS a young boy growing up in the late 1980s and early 1990s, I used to hear about the man who brought independence to PNG.
He is said to be a strong and charismatic leader who stood up and challenged the so-called “big men” (Caucasians) running our country.
I read about him in the textbooks while in primary school and was proud to have a leader like him.
I always thought Sir Michael Somare is one of the greatest leaders that PNG ever had besides Sir Iambakey Okuk and Sir John Guise to name a few.
But now, I am sorry to say that all these views that I used to have of our prime minister have been shattered.
It is so sad that a great man like the Grand Chief has got himself tangled up in so many controversial issues that many Papua New Guineans have lost their respect for him.
One good example is the Moti case in which he was heavily involved but chose to deny it and tried to cover up his involvement.
He no longer accepts criticisms and thinks everything he does is right without thinking about the consequences that the people will face in years to come.
I look forward to the day when our PM can humble himself and resign as a true leader and let someone else take over the reigns.
He cannot afford to lose more credibility.
