Western must prioritise spending

Letters, Normal

I would like to thank OTML for its initiative to improve health indicators in the North Fly district through its North Fly health service development programme (NFHSDP).
It is responsible for the delivery of more than 6,000 mosquito nets, establishment of VCT clinics, and installation and maintenance of health centres.
In addition, the programme has moved backlogs of medical supplies to remote facilities, donating vehicles, etc.
While the people of North Fly credit OTML for its community obligation, I would like to question the Fly River government’s role in health service delivery overall.
Where are the millions of kina given to Fly government annually by OTML?
The money should have been used to improve the health indicators.
The National Economic and Fiscal Commission recently revealed that Western was not spending enough in service delivery although it had a budget surplus.
What aren’t the money being used?
Is it any surprise there is little or no sign of progress in the province?
It is obvious the Fly River government does not know how to deliver services and implement strategies effectively.
It is vital the provincial government take this opportunity to develop or else we will remain as the least developed province.
What an embarrassment.
