A CONSERVATION deeds map has been finalised for the Karkum and Mirap villages in Madang to protect the leatherback sea turtle.
Headed by Wenceslaus Magun, head of Kimadi Conservation in Madang, the map completes their work in the two villages.
“It now allows us to complete our community-managed marine areas (CMMA) using conservation deeds,” he said.
The map was drawn up by the Nature Conservation team with the assistance of ward member Adolf Lilai.
Magun said the marine zones on the map covered the area of high water levels in nautical miles.
“The marine zone covers the area between high water level mark of three nautical miles (about 5km).”
Magun hopes that by the end of the month they will be able to achieve a CMMA with the help of the maps created.
