WOMEN are special as they give life, Maprik MP John Simon says.

Simon made the comment during the Assemblies of God church (AOG) Northern region women’s convention at Maprik Secondary School last Monday.

More than 1,000 women from the region attended the week-long event.

The AOG Northern region women’s convention covers East and West Sepik and involves women from the 18 districts in the two provinces.

Simon told people at the convention that women played an important role in society.

“This year’s theme is: ‘Partnering with the Holy Spirit’, meaning women must take their rightful place in whatever they are doing in their Christian lives as well as other activities,” Simon said.

He told the women they should know they were special people as they gave source of life.

Simon acknowledged the church in the Northern region, saying such gatherings would strengthen women’s faith.

He said office his had prioritised church activities in the district as an important area.

Simon said his office was eager to help and support church groups in the district.

But, he urged the groups to work together and form a Council of Churches.

He said if such a council existed it would be easier for his office to help with funding.

“In this year’s budget in my joint district budget and priorities committee (JDBPC) has allocated one-tenth o to churches,” Simon said.

He presented K20,000 to support the work of AOG women in the region.
