Marape showing double standards

Letters

THE double standards and poor leadership by our elected officials have been exposed recently as Prime Minister James Marape holds rallies in the Highlands, openly flaunting his governments rule on gatherings of crowds.
Pandemic Response Controller David Manning has already issued instructions against gathering of crowds.
Deputy controller Dr Daoni Esorom then raised concerns about the unmanaged queues in banks.
Yet, the prime minister held a gathering that puts thousands of lives in remote areas with little or no access to healthcare at risk just to hold a political rally.
For once, I agree with Opposition Leader Belden Namah that this is unacceptable and a double standard.
While the controller is trying to explain the reasons behind this, the truth is that the prime minister wanted thousands to turn up.
He wants to stand in front of them and pretend that his government is helping them.
Papua New Guinea has so much potential.
We have many resources and we have countries fighting against each other to help us develop them.
But we will always be a poor country if our leaders continue to disregard rules.
This sort of behaviour trickles down to the lowest level.
This explains why the system is not working.
We need leaders that hold themselves and their colleagues to the same standard that they expect others to follow.
Protect our people.
Don’t put them in danger for the sake of your ego.
The prime minister has not shown leadership in many areas including; changing ministerial portfolios; the Porgera mine closure; Papua liquefied natural gas project; adhering to Coronavirus restrictions; PNG’s debt cris; and, others.
We need a prime minister who sets the standards and lives by them.
