Marape’s victory

Letters

YOUNG, educated, exposed, experienced and God-fearing, Prime Minister James Marape’s victory signifies a generation shift in politics.
That was evident when the country’s top performing Prime Minister Peter O’Neill stepped down to allow Marape and Sir Mekere to contest for the ultimate chair. Seeing all senior MPs, plus the two former prime ministers and action Enga governor standing for Marape is a demonstration of the older generation’s faith in the younger.
While many people may have different opinions about Marape, the transition of power must be respected.
And the country is also breathing a sigh of relief after a brief political stalemate which held public service delivery, to a large extent, at ransom.
For the country’s top performing prime minister to respect Marape in the interest of political stability, he deserve’s commendation.
You are a true stateman and you have shown the younger generation that respect derives its nobility from reciprocity.
Marape earns O’Neill respect as was clearly demonstrated on the floor of Parliament – a further tribute of upholding cultural decency and values.
In politics, there are no enemies.
You only have friends but as politics is challenged by difficult social and economic circumstances, politics can get messy as MPs develop circumstantial resentment for each other, something that is prevalent in PNG especially during the formation of Government and during any vote of no confidence motion
However, given that it’s human nature, we ordinary people should see politics objectively and appreciate its development in the interest of this country.
Marape is one of our young leader, who, despite his age, brings a wealth of experience and his elevation and the support he received in Parliament on his election shows that politics is getting better ahead of times.
There has been volumes of inspiring stories about Marape before and after his election filling the media streams and the most notable is his Christian background, upbringing and character discipline.
Christians around the country are celebrating O’Neill’s successor and will continue to pray for our new prime minister to lead the country during this difficult time.
Marape inauguration speech is evident of a leader who has the heart for this country.
He has seen, experienced and lived in the villages of this country like most MPs in the past and present Parliament and knows the real hardships people face.
He will make a great leader which time will judge and we must support his leadership and Government during this difficult time to ensure they deliver.
