CHARLIE Marip netted six goals to help Bara beat reigning Northern Conference champions Poro in round two of the Women’s National Soccer League at 11-Mile outside Lae on Saturday.
In the other conference matches, Lahi beat Rainy Lae 7-1 and Madang’s Tusbab Laidamon beat LFA Originals 3-0 in their first away win.
Marip encountered passport issues which prevented her from travelling with the national team to Singapore for a tri-nations series against the hosts and Seychelles.
She combined well with captain Jenisa Ulengit, Alison Paulus, Nenny Elias, Eunice Nabalu and Rayleen Saiuk to score five goals in the first half.
Poro’s Anathasia Gunemba, Honorea Kaizam, Aileen David and Rakele Seka tried to contain Marip, but she was rampant in front of goal.
Marip scored her sixth goal one minute into the second half as Bara took an unassailable 6-0 lead.
Bara sealed the win when a Marip corner kick found Sandra Kisi to score their final goal.
But coach Troy Gunemba’s Poro fought back and scored a consolation goal via a corner kick.
Bara coach Edna Thomas said after the game that they needed to rebound from their loss to Lahi.
“Marip’s inclusion is a bonus,” she said.
