MARRIAGE is a life-long commitment built on love, trust, understanding, respect, appreciation, faithfulness and loyalty, a church leader says.
Speaking during the wedding of Michael Otto Awaliye, from Banz, Jiwaka, and Tabitha Willie, of Koskala village in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands, on Saturday, Rev Peter Ropra, Superintendent of Highlands Assemblies of God Church, said: “The first important decision is to follow God.
“The second is to choose a partner in marriage.”
Ropra described marriage as a “lifetime decision, a covenant that God honours”.
“Let the will of God take over your life.
“I got married in 1978.
“Since then, I have never looked back.
“I was faithful to God and faithful to my wife, never one time was I unfaithful or dishonoured my wife so God has honoured us with children, grandchildren and many other blessings,” Ropra said, while encouraging the couple.
Community spokesman Paul Meninga congratulated Willie for choosing Awaliye. “You’re a lucky woman because you are marrying a pastor, a leader and an educated person,” he told Willie.
Ottto’s fellow pastors, leaders and members of the community congratulated him for being a good role model.
Awaliye said his church wedding had set a precedence for his Sekaka tribe.
