THIRTEEN couples from the Seventh-Day Adventist church in Goroka, Eastern Highlands, blessed their marriages in a mass recently.

In a unique ceremony at the Burning Hill Adventist church, the couples were challenged to always put God first in their lives.

Celebrant and retired president of Eastern Highlands/Chimbu mission Pr Jesley Farugaso said family life was always the foundation of any community, district, province and country.

Farugaso said it was important to always uphold godly values and norms to raise children in fear and respect for God and fellow citizens, adding that Western influence had dismantled family values.

General secretary Zuzai Hizoke, who conducted the training for the couples, urged youths to prepare for godly lives.

“Youths are taught to stay away from fornication and unwanted pregnancies, especially teenagers, as a direct influence of modernisation,” Hizoke said.

“We initiated this to strengthen the marriages and prepare youth for a better family life tomorrow.”

Goroka MP Bire Kimisopa attended the ceremony with several senior pastors and clergymen.
