FORMER PNG Pukpuk Freddie Mathies commended Football Federation PNG president John Kapi Natto for his passion in football.
In his speech during the launching of FFPNG into West New Britain in Kimbe, Mathies said it was an honour for a person like Kapi Natto to visit his people.
Mathies, who manages the sporting facilities used during the last PNG Games, said he welcomed FFPNG to use the facilities.
He said he knew that Kapi Natto has passion for football.
“He physically moved around the country to visit rural and urban areas to ensure football reached everyone, and it takes passion to do that.”
Mathies urged the soccer populace in West New Britain to continue enjoying the game and leave the politics which was an administrative matter for people at the top to handle.
He said there are on-going talks about football coming back as one united family but in the meantime, the game must go ahead for people to enjoy it.
“We at ground level must enjoy the game and leave politics to people in high places,” he said.
The former rugby union international said West New Britain has vast potential in all sports.
“There are many hidden talents out in the rural areas. FFPNG is taking the lead to unearth them and hopefully they will play at a bigger stage.
“With the current facilities WNB can become the best in the region in terms in standard of competition. Playing at the best facilities will improve the game greatly,” he said
Mathies said he wanted to see all codes in Kimbe rise up.
