Maths teacher not happy

Letters

I am a former school teacher of mathematics and I am very disappointed to read about the decline in the standard of learning and teaching of the subject in schools.
There is really nothing wrong with either the standard-based or outcome-based curriculum. I am of the view that the problem is with the delivery of the curriculum itself.
I left teaching in 1991 but in 2008, a grade 11 mathematics student found five questions from topics I taught in grade 11 appear in the grade 12 examination mathematics paper.
Talk to me. Mathematics in its best.
